Melbourne Cup Inspired Awards Dinner

290 Paper flowers, 19 crew, 2 8T trucks, 3 3T trucks, 1 Genuine Melbourne Cup

This year the Melbourne Cup arrived early! Hosted at Flemington’s Event Centre, the Awards Dinner brought Melbourne’s Spring Racing Carnival to town six months early.

With a colour palette of blush pinks and pastel greens, spring was in the air at Flemington for the night. The overall design featured crisp white backdrops with almost 300 delicate, oversized paper flowers trailing their way across the arrival Media Wall, Stage Set and DJ booth. Guests enjoyed the unique media wall, with many ‘selfies’ captured on arrival.

Low line glass cylinder vases overflowed with native spinning gum. Arrangements were accented with suitably feminine touches of assorted pink roses to capture the spring racing flair. Finally, a horse silhouette standing proud in each arrangement replaced typical table numbers.

Empire Red designed and managed theaudio visual requirements for the night with soft and subtle lighting to complete the look. AV was smart, simple and effective with clever pre-production planning delivering a successful end result. Sound, lighting, vision, show calling and technical direction all came together with top Technical Operators at the helm.

The fabulously witty Em Rusciano was Master of Ceremonies for the evening, keeping the energy high and the guests entertained. A roving camera with a live feed to screen allowed Em to host impromptu interviews with guests. This became a very engaging element of the night, the live feed also featured Em’s commentary on fascinators and hats worn by guests on the night.

Also making an appearance were the The Wacky’s who induced a little racing fever. Tunes kicked off with deck spinning by the wonderful DJ Claire. Afterwards, Samantha Jade performed for guests, inviting them up to dance with her in front of the main stage. It was a shame that the formal award component of the event came to a close so soon. Thankfully, the night kicked on with a surprise after party upstairs in The Peak where Furnace and the Fundamentals really got the party started.
